Soccer World Cup 2010

The Soccer World Cup 2010 will be the 19th edition of the massively popular international football tournament, but this will be the first Soccer World Cup to be hosted by an African country.

South Africa won the bid to host the event and has spent the last few years planning and developing infrastructure to cope with the millions of football fans who will be descending upon the Southern African country.

Legions of fans will be flying to South Africa to see the Soccer World Cup 2010, following their national heroes into the stadiums where blood sweat and tears will be shed in a battle to decide the next world champions. The favourites are starting to emerge with qualifying matches in full swing and coaches around the world getting tenser with every passing match, friendly or not. Players are guarding themselves against injury, yet fighting to impress selectors and coaches. This is the magical period in football, which fans only get to enjoy once in every four years.
The 2010 Football World Cup has been a prominent feature in South African news for some time as review after review of the 2010 campaign probes the politics and economics around building stadiums and coping with the hugely increased traffic that will come with the 2010 SA edition.

The host country is adamant that preparations are on track and that come the 11th of June 2010, South African citizens will be the proud hosts of a well run event. In effect, many other African states are hoping that all runs smoothly, because success in SA 2010 could mean that the World Cup would come back to Africa sooner.

In many ways, this edition is Africa 2010,  with African themes and cultural flavours, surely this will be a very different World Cup!
